1. What's your story? Where are you from?

Hi, I'm Ho-mi, a graphic designer in Korea. I'm drawing as a hobby. And maybe it could be my main job someday. 안녕하세요. 저는 한국에서 그래픽 디자이너로 일하고 있는 호미입니다. 취미로 그림을 그리고 있어요. 언젠가 본업이 될수도 있겠죠.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I draw the scene that comes to my mind and draw what I want. It is my direction to use unique objects and attractive colors, which is not quite common. 문득 떠오르는 장면이나 그리고 싶은것을 그려요. 뜬금없지만 독특한 오브제, 매력적인 컬러를 사용하는것이 제가 추구하는 방향이에요.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

I prefer doing digital work using software like Photoshop or devices like an iPad. That's because I can keep correcting until I get my satisfied results during work. Photoshop 또는 iPad로 디지털 작업을 선호합니다. 만족스러운 결과가 나올때까지 수정하며 작업할 수 있기 때문이에요.

4. What is your artistic process like?

Usually, I simply sketch and draw an image that comes to mind in sudden. I've made a color chip of a favorite combination and also use the color I wanted to use before. These days, I do a lot of research to make different styles. 보통은 갑자기 떠오르는 이미지를 간단하게 스케치하고 그림을 그려요. 마음에 드는 조합의 컬러칩을 만들어 써보고 싶었던 컬러를 사용하기도 하고, 요즘은 다른 스타일을 만들기 위해 연구도 많이 하고 있습니다.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

I like to collect photos of my favorite scenes, objects, people, and color combinations. And also, I am inspired by cats, movies, music and images that come to mind. I can see my taste and what I want through those collections. 평소에 좋아하는 장면이나 사물, 인물, 컬러 조합 등 사진을 수집하는 것을 좋아합니다. 또는 고양이나 영화, 음악을 듣고 떠오르는 이미지에서도 영감을 받습니다. 그런것들이 쌓이다보면 나의 취향과 내가 무엇을 원하는지 알수있어요.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

Art makes me see world deeper and deeper. It makes me remember and record the moments that I don't want to forget. 예술은 세상을 더 깊게 바라보게 해줘요. 그림으로 남기고 싶은 순간을 놓치지 않기 위해 더 기억하고 기록하게 합니다.

7. Where did you study?

I majored in visual communication design at university and started my own illustration by myself. 대학교에서 시각디자인 전공했고 일러스트레이션은 독학으로 시작했습니다.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

I want to draw steadily and publish illustration books. 그림을 꾸준히 그리고 그림책을 출판하고 싶어요.

9. What about in ten?

I would like to work as a freelancing illustrator, doing lectures and exhibits, and create my own workplace which can also be as a showroom. 일러스트레이터 프리랜서로 활동하며 강연도 하고 전시도 하고 작업공간 겸 쇼룸을 만들고 싶어요.

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

I wish people notice that it's my work just by looking at it without any explanation. And I want to express much things so my work can be used in many fields. 많은 사람들이 그림만 봐도 제 작업인줄 알았으면 좋겠어요. 그리고 더 많은 것들을 표현하여 작업물이 많은 곳에 쓰였으면 좋겠어요.

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

Pizza and Pad Thai. 피자, 팟타이

12. Favourite book?

I like reading Korean novels. I love the unique calm and delicate atmosphere. 한국 소설을 좋아합니다. 특유의 차분하고 섬세한 분위기를 좋아해요.

13. Favourite genre of music?

I listen mellow pops, and lo-fi beat musics the most, and jazz often these days. Mellow pop이나 lo-fi 음악을 제일 많이 듣고, 요즘은 재즈도 자주 듣고 있습니다.

14. What are your hobbies?

Blogging, Playing with cats, Cleaning home. 블로그에 일상 기록하기, 고양이와 놀기, 집 청소하기.

15. If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

I've been dreaming of art since I was young, but if it wasn't art, I think I would have been a hair designer. Because I always like to do something with my hands. I think it will be fun. 어렸을때부터 미술 분야를 꿈꿔왔는데 미술쪽이 아니었다면 저는 헤어디자이너를 했을것 같아요. 왜냐하면 손으로 이것 저것 만드는것을 좋아해서 재미있을것 같아요.
