1. What's your story? Where are you from?

I've been an illustrator since I was a child. I was always clear that my job was going to go this way. I was born in Barcelona and I have lived in many places, now I live in Madrid. I studied Fine Arts and Illustration and since then I have been dedicated to graphic design and illustration. Sometimes I work as a teacher teaching children's courses related to creativity and illustration. Soy ilustradora desde que era niña. Siempre tuve claro que mi trabajo iba a ir por este camino. Nací en Barcelona y he vivido en muchos lugares, ahora resido en Madrid. Estudié Bellas Artes e Ilustración y desde entonces me he dedicado al diseño gráfico y a la ilustración. A veces trabajo como docente impartiendo cursos infantiles relacionados con la creatividad y la ilustración.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I like to give my work a touch of poetry. Nature is my center of balance. I do not usually represent people, I always transform them, I prefer monsters and weird beings. Me gusta dar a mi obra un poco de poesía. La naturaleza es mi centro de equilibrio. No suelo representar a personas, siempre los transformo, prefiero los monstruos y los seres raros.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

Above all I like experimentation. I use textures from scraps of old papers, a mix with watercolor, pencils and felt-tip pens. I love cutting out papers and then drawing on them. Sobre todo me gusta la experimentación. Utilizo texturas de restos de papeles antiguos, y mezclar con acuarela, lápices y rotuladores. Me encanta recortar papeles y luego dibujar en ellos.

4. What is your artistic process like?

I like to think a lot about the project, especially at night in bed, where most of my ideas are born. Although I do not usually do very elaborated sketches, I do composition sketches before I start working. Finally I get my boxes full of papers and the rest of the materials, and I get to work, always giving a space to improvisation. Me gusta primero pensar muchos sobre el proyecto, especialmente por la noche en la cama, ahí nacen la mayoría de mis ideas. Aunque no suelo hacer bocetos muy elaborados, si que antes de pasar a la acción hago estudios de composición. Por último saco mis cajas llenas de papeles y el resto de material y me pongo a trabajar, siempre dando un espacio a la improvisación.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

Nature and especially plants play a great role in my work. I am also obsessed with the night sky. La naturaleza y sobre todo las plantas acompañan la mayoría de mis trabajos. También me obsesiona el cielo nocturno.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

Art is the engine that makes me work, awakens my childish part. The place where I go to create a reality that I like more than the real world. El arte es el motor que me hace funcionar, despierta mi parte infantil. El lugar donde me acerco para crear un realidad que me gusta mas que el mundo real.

7. Where did you study?

I started to study in Salamanca Fine Arts, I went through Barcelona and finished in Madrid with a scholarship to study Illustration. Empecé a estudiar en Salamanca Bellas Artes pasé por Barcelona y terminé en Madrid con una beca para estudiar Ilustración.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years? Working in an agency?

No, I love working on my own. I would love to be able to publish many illustrated albums, teach illustration and continue working as a designer for the NGOs that I work with. No, me encanta trabajar por mi cuenta. Me encantaría poder publicar muchos álbumes ilustrados, dar clases de ilustración y seguir trabajando como diseñadora para las ONG´s que trabajo.

9. What about in ten?

I have no idea what will happen in ten years, but I would like to continue working as an illustrator. No tengo idea de que pasará dentro de diez años, pero me gustaría seguir trabajando como ilustradora.

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

I wish I will always make my living out of art. But on a more spiritual level, I wish I could touch somehow the people who see it. Espero vivir siempre de mi arte. Pero a nivel más espiritual, espero que logre hacer algún tipo de pequeño cambio en las personas que lo ven.

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

My favorite food is the chocolate cake. I also love veggies, exotic mixtures. I do not eat meat. Mi comida favorita es la tarta de chocolate. También me encanta la verdura, las mezclas estrañas y no como carne.

12. Favourite book?

I love reading graphic novel and comic books. Also go to libraries to the children's section and see children´s book. I can not pick a favorite book! Me gustan mucho leer novela gráfica y cómic. También ir a bibliotecas a la planta de niños y ver álbum ilustrador. ¡No puedo elegir un libro favorito!

13. Favourite genre of music?

I love Indie Folk, garage music, rock ... Me encanta el Indie Folk, la música garaje, rock…

14. What are your hobbies?

I love going to the country with my dog. I also enjoy being with my friends, I love reading, going to exhibitions ... and I love to sleep. Me encanta ir con mi perra al campo. También disfrutar de mis amigos, leer, ir a exposiciones…y dormir.

15. If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

A teacher. Maestra.
