1. What's your story? Where are you from?

Hello! My name is Darya Moroz, I am from the beautiful city of Almaty, which is located at the foot of the mountains of Zailiysky Alatau in Kazakhstan. Привет! Меня зовут Дарья Мороз, я из прекрасного города Алматы, что располагается у подножья гор Заилийского Алатау в Казахстане.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I love simplicity in illustration. I love color combinations. I love forms. But the main thing is always the meaning, and I really like it when there is a bit of humor in art, it takes the illustration to a new level. Я люблю простоту в иллюстрации. Люблю сочетания цветов. Люблю формы. Но главным всегда остаётся смысл, и ещё мне очень нравится когда присутствует юмор, это выводит иллюстрацию на новый уровень.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

Usually, I work in Procreate on iPad, and I like to add some interest to the digital work, such as hand-made work with an unpredictable result, for example, watercolor stains. But traditional techniques are with me forever, linocut —one love. Чаще всего я работаю в прокриэйте на айпаде, и мне нравится добавлять в диджитл работы немного рукотворства с непредсказуемым результатом, например акварельные пятна. Но традиционные техники со мной навеки, линогравюра— ван лав.

4. What is your artistic process like?

It’s easier for me to work when there is a given topic. Therefore, Instagram challenges go to mommy. I try to display the topic of the assignment in an unobvious way. When an idea comes up, I almost immediately see a finished picture in my head, and I rarely look for a composition for a long time. I often draw at night, and after finishing any stage, I definitely take a break until the next day to think everything through my head, come back and do even better. Мне легче работать когда есть заданная тема. Поэтому челенджи в Инстаграм идут к мамочке. Стараюсь отобразить тему задания неочевидным образом. Когда появляется идея, я практически сразу вижу в голове готовую картинку, и редко долго ищу композицию. Я часто рисую ночами, и закончив какой-либо этап, обязательно делаю перерыв до следующего дня, чтобы обдумать всё в голове, вернуться и сделать еще лучше.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

The work of other illustrators and magic kicks in the form of criticism or lost contests is most inspiring. I’m directly get worked up from this. Больше всего вдохновляют работы других иллюстраторов и поджопники в виде критики или проигранных конкурсов. Я прям завожусь от этого.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

Thanks to art, I am observant. I see what’s going on around and analyzing to reflect in my art. It helps to be on the level. Благодаря искусству я наблюдательна. Подмечать то, что происходит вокруг, и анализировать, чтобы отобразить в работах — помогает быть в теме.

7. Where did you study?

I studied at the faculty of graphic arts at the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abay Я училась в на художественно-графическом факультете в Казахском Национальном Педагогическом Университете имени Абая

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Oh, my! I am a cool illustrator with cool projects, and now you know about me. And for this, now my path is to always be in progress and work hard. Ооо! Я — крутой иллюстратор с крутыми проектами, и теперь-то вы знаете обо мне. И для этого сейчас мой путь — всегда находиться в развитии и много работать.

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

To show people unobvious things and brighten up their life, plunging into the atmosphere of my illustrations. I just love it when people write to me that they see themselves in my pictures. Показать людям неочевидные вещи и скрасить им жизнь, погрузив в атмосферу моих иллюстраций. Просто обожаю, когда люди пишут мне, что видят себя в моих картинках.

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

Golden brown potatoes with a glass of cold milk. Is wine considered as food? Жареная картошечка со стаканом холодного молока. Винчик считается за еду?

12. Favourite book?

I love magical realism, and books about psychology, and books about fictional worlds and times. I’m very sad when I don’t have enough time to read. Люблю магический реализм, и книги о психологии, и книги про вымышленные миры и времена. Очень грущу, когда не хватает времени на почитать.

13. Favourite genre of music?

I have two favorite bands: Jamiroquai and Bi-2. There is nothing in common between them. This is for the soul. And for the body - I love everything energetic so that you can stretch the legs and shake the body. У меня есть две любимые группы это Jamiroquai и Би-2. Между ними нет ничего общего. Это для души. А для тела — люблю всё энергичное, чтобы можно было размять кости и потрясти телом.

14. What are your hobbies?

My hobby is to work with my hands in different variations: making costumes, making hats for festivals, painting faces, walls, clothes, sculpting from clay, decorating the interior, gluing wallpaper in a dollhouse. Мое хобби — работать руками в разных вариациях: шить костюмы, мастерить шляпы для фестивалей, расписывать лица, стены, одежду, лепить из глины, украшать интерьер, клеить обои в кукольном доме.

15. If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

Sommelier is an interesting profession. In general, with my meticulousness and love to sort things out, I could probably become a lawyer, or a librarian (especially since I already have glasses). Сомелье — интересная профессия. А вообще, с моей дотошностью и любовью все раскладывать по полочкам, я наверное могла бы стать юристом, или библиотекарем (тем более очки у меня уже есть).
