1. What's your story? Where are you from?

My name is Jisu Choi and Currently, I am working as an illustrator in Korea. I also draw various places while traveling because travel and new experiences inspire me.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I love beautiful sights and strange places that make me stop on the spot and turn around to have another look. I try my best to visualize the specific moment where I felt a sense of difference or subtle atmosphere.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

I use heavily textured oil color pencils or Photoshop. I prefer color pencils when Iโ€™m outside at some strange place because I can capture the scenes I want to draw fast. The main tool though is Photoshop. It is efficient, especially when I play with the colors and the images I come up with. I also like its digital features as it gives me freedom of expression.

4. What is your artistic process like?

I always try to live a well-regulated life. As it is not easy for me to rebound from a slump, I record anything that comes to my mind. It has to be everyday things, like exercise. When I come up with some suitable topics for those random ideas, I join them into a whole piece. Having a routine allows me to be more creative as I can put my energy into art.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

I get ideas from photos I took or conversations I have had with others. I used to take my camera and go out but with the advance of technology, I can easily take pictures with my phone whenever I like. 6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

Drawing used to comfort me to some degree. When I look at my past drawings, they seem more like a huge chunk of sadness and anger than pieces of art. I still get some comfort from my creative working process, but Iโ€™ve learned to think of it as a means to organize my thoughts.
