1. What's your story? Where are you from?

Hi, I'm seog-gu lee (nickname : gooroovoo) from Seoul, Korea. I have been a freelance illustrator for 10 years. I published my first picture book in 2015, and the third picture book will be published in this summer. 이석구입니다. (일러스트레이터 필명은 구루부라고 합니다.) 서울에서 살고 있습니다. 프리랜서 일러스트레이터로 10년 정도 활동을 하며 다양한 작업을 해왔습니다. 2015년 첫 그림책을 출간하며 그림책 작가로도 활동 중입니다. 곧 세 번째 그림책이 출간될 예정.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I don't know. just draw. 잘모르겠다. 그냥 그린다.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

For painting, acrylic colors. At first, I chose it because of the fixation and preservation. And now, I'm used to it. For drawing, I use ballpoint pens, colored pencils and ink. 그림은 아크릴로 작업한다. 수정과 보존성 때문에 선택했는데, 지금은 익숙해서 사용한다. 드로잉은 주로 볼펜, 색연필, 잉크를 이용한다.

4. What is your artistic process like?

First of all, collect images and stories. After that, develop and fix, develop and fix.... Repeat again. 이미지와 이야기들의 수집, 발전, 수정, 발전, 수정.... 의 반복

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

Unusual ordinary life. 특별한 무엇보다 평범한 일상.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

It is hard to think about life and art separately. So I can't talk about the role of art on my life. Now, I see all objects as a source of my artwork. 삶과 작업을 따로 생각하기 어렵고 그래서, 그것이 내 삶에 끼치는 영향에 대해 이야기하는 것은 더 어려운 것 같다. 작업에 어떻게 쓸 수 있을까 생각을 하며 대상을 바라보게 된다.

7. Where did you study?

B.F.A Visual communication design, Kookmin University in Seoul. 국민대학교 시각디자인학과를 졸업했다.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years? Working in an agency?

I hope to grow up as a picture book author. 그림책 작가로서 좀 더 성장했으면 좋겠다.

9. What about in ten?

It's too distant future to me. 나에게 10년은 너무 먼 미래다.

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

Just, I want to do work that I want. 그냥, 하고 싶은 작업을 할 수 있었으면 좋겠다.

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

Noodles and sweet desserts. 면으로 된 음식들과 달달한 간식들.

12. Favourite book?

I like picture books, comics, and fictions. Adachi Mitsuru in comics, and Shaun Tan in picture books are my favourite books. 그림책과 만화, 소설을 좋아한다. 만화책으로 아다치 미츠루의 <러프>와 그림책으로 숀 탠의 <빨간 나무>

13. Favourite genre of music?

I usually listen to soft and cheerful music in all genre. 특정한 장르 상관없이, 차분하고 경쾌한 음악을 주로 듣는다.

14. What are your hobbies?

I have no hobby to do hard, but sometimes try to do little things for fun. 열심히 하는 취미는 없는 것 같다. 할 수 있는 소소한 것들을 그때그때 즐겁게 하려고 한다.

15. If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

Maybe I would have been an office worker. 아마도 평범한 직장인이 되었을 것 같다.
