1. What’s your story? Where are you from?

My name is Xin Yin Chen, 26 years old, I am a graphic designer and free time illustrator in Taiwan.

For me, painting is like good medicine that tastes bitter. What I am truly happy about is all related to painting, so art, design and illustration are always a vital part of my life.

我是陳欣吟，26歲來自台灣。我是一名平面設計師跟插畫工作者。

對我而言，畫畫是良藥也是苦口，我真正感覺到快樂的事情便是和畫畫有關，藝術、設計、插畫都是我生活中重要的一部分。

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I would say that my aesthetic has been influenced in many ways. For example, I enjoy watching movies from the 30s-80s. The composition and aesthetic used in the movies in the period are stunning.

From art scenes, posters, costumes, totality layouts, to camera movement perspectives, all these help me have an understanding of color perception.

我會說我的審美觀受到多方面影響。例如，我喜歡看30-80年代老電影，這時期運用到的構圖美學相當令人驚艷，從美術場景、電影海報、服裝、整體架構到運境讓我對色彩感知上有了新的理解。

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

Adobe Photoshop and Adobe illustrator, also I have a Wacom Cintiq Tablet to make my works more efficiently.

大多使用 Adobe photoshop 和 Adobe illustrator 和繪圖板使工作更有效率。

4. What is your artistic process like?

I tend to draw a variety of drafts with pencil or pen and then add color to these drafts. I also like to collect images on the topic I am interested in by cutting and pasting.

Most of the time I will open sketchbooks I’ve accumulated for years to help myself get some ideas.

我偏向用鉛筆或原子筆畫很多少草圖，並延伸處理色彩部分。也喜歡剪剪貼貼，收集覺得有趣的主題。大多時候我會翻翻長久累積的素描本，幫助我得到一些靈感。

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

My inspirations usually come from daily life, such as travel, issue, movies, magazine, fashion, exhibitions and so on. Recently, I’ve been watching craft exhibitions online, maybe I could get some ideas from them.

靈感大多來自日常生活, 旅行,議題,電影,雜誌,時尚,展覽等等。最近在看在線上舉辦的工藝展覽，或許可以從中得到一些靈感。

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

I would say that art is everywhere. I think it may have made me more observant of details or different opinions. Most importantly, it makes the world more amazing and stunning.

藝術在任何地方，藝術讓我更多觀察生活上的細節和不同的觀點，最重要的是藝術使世界充滿驚艷。

7. Where did you study?

I studied in Taiwan, but most of my work skills and practical experience are learnt by myself or in the workplace.

我在台灣學習，但多數工作技能跟實務經驗都是透過自學和職場。

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Keep exploring, keep learning new things, Be kind, always.

不斷探索、不斷學習新知，保持善良。

9. What about in ten?

It’s an interesting question.... I hope I can travel around the world with my skills and experience and then, life and work will be more balanced. Be kind, always.

有趣的問題！希望能透過自身經驗與技能環遊世界，然後生活跟工作能更加平衡，並保持善良。

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

I hope I could try different materials and methods on my work and pay more attention to details about life, issues etc.

我希望能嘗試更多不同媒材跟想法在我的作品中，更多關注於生活上的細節、議題等等。

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

Western cuisine and Chinese cuisine are my favorite, I cannot choose between the two...

西式料理跟中式料理都是我的最愛，無法選擇..... > <

12. Favourite book?

Normal people by Sally Rooney, Just Kids by Patti Smith

正常人、只是孩子

13. Favourite genre of music?

My music lists are quite broad... like jazz, hip-hop, lo-fi hip-hop, indie record.....

音樂清單很廣泛，像是爵士樂、嘻哈、獨立專輯....。

14. What are your hobbies?

Netflix, reading, hanging out with my friends, find some amazing coffee bars or restaurants, trying to cook.

看電影、看影集、閱讀、跟朋友出門、找一些不錯的咖啡廳或餐廳、嘗試做菜。

15. If you weren’t an artist, what would you be?

Maybe a coffee shop owner or a pattern designer.

咖啡廳老闆或印花設計師。
