1. What's your story? Where are you from?

Hello, I'm Tom. Im the head coffee roaster at "Butterworth & Son" but i like to draw pictures every now and then. I live in Bury St Edmunds with my fiance and my lovely little street dog Joy. Buy some coffee I roasted (also did the little drawings on the bags) www.butterworthandson.co.uk.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

It just has to be fun to look at!, I usually draw things that revolve around my personal interests. Sometimes trying to replicate an exact moment or trying to see it from a different angle. Trying to capture the right atmosphere makes me tend to switch up styles from time to time.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

It's probably pencils still. it's simple and always accessible. Don't get me wrong I love drawing on a tablet because that's where most of my drawings finish but I love a notebook and a good pencil.

4. What is your artistic process like?

Normally I see something in a film or video game and think wow that's cool! And just like a kid ill spend days drawing the same thing. Pencils for sketching and layout and then moving it all to digital for tweaking and editing. For example, i saw the new star wars recently and I've been drawing rebels on tiny pieces of paper for days. After a while, ill get all the sketches together and think what can I make that captures how I felt when I watched that film.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

Mainly films, video games, board games, comics and generally sci-fi related stuff but its nice to break it up every now and then and just look at something completely new.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

I draw things mainly because thats what i did when i was little. Its sole purpose for me is enjoyment and escapism.

7. Where did you study?

Leeds college of art (mathewthehorse was my tutor for a bit, HES GREAT!)

8. Where do you see yourself in five years? Working in an agency?

Dont really know to be honest, I hope I'm doing the same thing really. Hopefully working on various styles of drawing and start making my own stories.

9. What about in ten?

I cant see that far in the future!. All i know is ill be married and still drawing (hopefully)

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

Thats really Tough! hopefully some people will see it and think "wait i know that, wait whats that from?"

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

cheese and onion sandwiches.

12. Favourite book?

I am Legend but I've been reading Alan Partridge nomad over and over again recently.

13. Favourite genre of music?

Synthwave and electro. I like a bit of everything but i always fall back on 80s stuff.

14. What are your hobbies?

Painting silly little models, Videogames, Film spoilers,

15. If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

Probably Coffee roasting.
