1. What's your story? Where are you from?

Hello, my name is Yeni Kim and I am a paper artist based in Seoul, South Korea. I also work as an illustrator and art director. I enjoyed crafting and drawing since I was young and I am still devoted to creating and designing things that make our world beautiful. I recently created a craft studio named MARCH to leverage my experience in the field. I plan to work with talented artists on interesting projects like video and product development. λ‹Ήμ‹ μ˜ 이야기λ₯Ό λ“€λ €μ£Όμ„Έμš”. μ–΄λ””μ„œ μ™”λ‚˜μš”? μ•ˆλ…•ν•˜μ„Έμš”, μ €λŠ” ν•œκ΅ μ„œμšΈμ— μ‚΄κ³ μžˆλŠ” 페이퍼 μ•„ν‹°μŠ€νŠΈ Yeni Kim μž…λ‹ˆλ‹€. 페이퍼 μ•„ν‹°μŠ€νŠΈ 외에도 μΌλŸ¬μŠ€νŠΈλ ˆμ΄ν„°, μ•„νŠΈλ””λ ‰ν„°λ‘œλ„ ν™œλ™ν•˜κ³  μžˆμ–΄μš”. μ–΄λ Έμ„λ•ŒλΆ€ν„° λ§Œλ“€κ³  κ·Έλ¦¬λŠ”κ±Έ μ’‹μ•„ν–ˆκ³ , μ§€κΈˆλ„ μ—¬μ „νžˆ λ§Œλ“€κ³  λ””μžμΈν•˜λ©° 세상을 μ•„λ¦„λ‹΅κ²Œ ν•˜λŠ” 것듀에 λͺ°λ‘ν•˜λ©° 지내고 μžˆμ–΄μš”. μ΅œκ·Όμ—λŠ” κ·Έλ™μ•ˆμ˜ κ²½ν—˜μ„ λ°”νƒ•μœΌλ‘œ MARCH λΌλŠ” μ΄λ¦„μ˜ CRAFT STUDIOλ₯Ό λ§Œλ“€μ—ˆλŠ”λ°μš”, μ•žμœΌλ‘œλŠ” 각 λΆ„μ•Όμ˜ 재λŠ₯μžˆλŠ” μ•„ν‹°μŠ€νŠΈλ“€κ³Όλ„ ν˜‘μ—…ν•˜λ©΄μ„œ μ˜μƒμ΄λ‚˜ μƒν’ˆ 개발처럼 μ’€ 더 λ‹€μ–‘ν•˜κ³  μž¬λ―ΈμžˆλŠ” ν”„λ‘œμ νŠΈλ₯Ό ν•΄λ³Ό μ˜ˆμ •μ΄μ—μš”. 3.Mcdonalds

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

My studio focuses on work pieces that embody the feeling of warmth. I use warm and robust colors that help me create heart-warming stories through my art. To achieve this, I work on a manual hand cutting method which can seem a bit erratic, but it ultimately delivers a very human and sensory message. As a next step, I would like to work on humorous and playful art pieces that can be more approachable without looking serious or formal. λ‹Ήμ‹ μ˜ 미학에 λŒ€ν•΄ λ“€λ €μ£Όμ„Έμš”. μ•žμ—μ„œ μ†Œκ°œν•œ μ €μ˜ μŠ€νŠœλ””μ˜€ μ΄λ¦„μ²˜λŸΌ(3μ›”) μ €λŠ” λ”°λœ»ν•œ λ΄„κ³Ό 같은 μž‘μ—…μ„ μΆ”κ΅¬ν•˜κ³  μžˆμ–΄μš”. λ”°λœ»ν•˜λ©΄μ„œλ„ λ‹€μ±„λ‘œμš΄ μ»¬λŸ¬λ“€μ„ μ’‹μ•„ν•˜κ³ , κ·Έ μ•ˆμ—λŠ” κ·€μ—½κ³  λ”°λœ»ν•œ μŠ€ν† λ¦¬κ°€ λ‹΄κ²¨μžˆλŠ”κ²ƒμ„ μ’‹μ•„ν•΄μš”. κ·Έλž˜μ„œ 쑰금 μ‚λš«μ§€λ§Œ 인간적이고 감성이 λŠκ»΄μ§€λŠ” ν•Έλ“œμ»·νŒ…λ°©μ‹ (μˆ˜μž‘μ—…)으둜 μž‘μ—…ν•˜κ³  μžˆλ‹΅λ‹ˆλ‹€. λ„ˆλ¬΄ μ§„μ§€ν•˜κ³  μ‹¬μ˜€ν•œ μž‘μ—…λ³΄λ‹€λŠ”, λˆ„κ΅¬μ—κ²Œλ‚˜ νŽΈμ•ˆν•˜κ²Œ λ‹€κ°€κ°ˆ 수 있고 보고 있으면 피식 μ›ƒμŒμ΄ λ‚˜λŠ” μœ λ¨ΈλŸ¬μŠ€ν•œ μž‘μ—…μ„ ν•˜κ³  μ‹Άμ–΄μš”.

3. What is your favorite medium and why?

Currently our main material is paper. We create three-dimensional artwork by treating paper with various techniques. I started out my career as an illustrator who painted with color pencils, but I always struggled to find my own new and fresh work style. One day, I drew on a piece of paper and added dimension to it by cutting it out. I felt that this gave life to the drawing that was trapped inside one dimension. I was fascinated by the charm of space and sense of depth after this discovery and eventually developed my current work style. There are many reasons why I chose paper as my material. I liked the familiarity of paper, its ability to transform into infinite shapes, and the light solidness of it. Better yet paper comes in countless colors and I often start experimenting with colors when I want to generate a new idea. 당신이 κ°€μž₯ μ’‹μ•„ν•˜λŠ” μž‘μ—… νˆ΄μ€ λ¬΄μ—‡μΈκ°€μš”? μ΄μœ λŠ”μš”? ν˜„μž¬ μ €μ˜ 메인 μ†Œμž¬λŠ” β€˜μ’…μ΄β€™ μž…λ‹ˆλ‹€. 그리고 κ·Έ 쒅이λ₯Ό μ—¬λŸ¬κ°€μ§€ λ°©μ‹μœΌλ‘œ 닀루어 β€˜μž…μ²΄μ μΈβ€™ μ•„νŠΈμ›μ„ λ§Œλ“€κ³  μžˆμ–΄μš”. 사싀 μ²˜μŒμ—λŠ” μƒ‰μ—°ν•„λ‘œ 그림을 κ·Έλ¦¬λŠ” μΌλŸ¬μŠ€νŠΈλ ˆμ΄ν„°λ‘œ μ‹œμž‘μ„ ν•˜μ˜€λŠ”λ° 늘 μƒˆλ‘κ³  μ‹ μ„ ν•œ μ €λ§Œμ˜ μž‘μ—…λ°©μ‹μ— λŒ€ν•œ 고민이 μžˆμ—ˆμ–΄μš”. 쒅이λ₯Ό μ„ νƒν•˜κ²Œ 된 κ³„κΈ°λŠ” μ—¬λŸ¬κ°€μ§€κ°€ μžˆλŠ”λ°μš”, μ €μ—κ²Œ 맀우 μΉœμˆ™ν•œ μ†Œμž¬μ΄λ©΄μ„œ λ¬΄κΆλ¬΄μ§„ν•œ ν˜•νƒœλ‘œ 변신이 κ°€λŠ₯ν•˜λ‹€λŠ”μ , κ°€λ²Όμš°λ©΄μ„œλ„ κ²¬κ³ ν•˜λ‹€λŠ” 점이 λ§ˆμŒμ— λ“€μ—ˆμ–΄μš”. 또 아름닡고 λ‹€μ–‘ν•œ μ»¬λŸ¬λ“€μ΄ μžˆμ–΄ 아이디어가 λ– μ˜€λ₯΄μ§€ μ•Šμ„λ•ŒλŠ” μ’…μ΄μ˜ μ»¬λŸ¬λΆ€ν„° μ„ μ •ν•  λ•Œλ„ μžˆλ‹΅λ‹ˆλ‹€.

4. What is your artistic process like?

When I get an idea in mind, I start with sketches, drawings, or simply start cutting. Next step is the stereoscopic process, which takes the most time and effort and is the hardest part of the entire workflow. Consequently, I go through a shoot at the studio and process the color correction on a computer as a final step. κ·Έ λ‹€μŒ μž…μ²΄ μž‘μ—…μ— κ°€μž₯ λ§Žμ€ μ‹œκ°„κ³Ό λ…Έλ ₯을 λ“€μ΄λŠ”λ°, 전체 ν”„λ‘œμ„ΈμŠ€ 쀑에 κ°€μž₯ νž˜λ“  κ³Όμ •μ΄λžλ‹ˆλ‹€. μž…μ²΄ μž‘μ—…μ΄ μ™„μ„±λ˜λ©΄ μŠ€νŠœλ””μ˜€μ— κ°€μ„œ μ΄¬μ˜μ„ ν•˜κ³ , μ»΄ν“¨ν„°λ‘œ 색감 보정같은 ν›„λ°˜μž‘μ—…μ„ 거쳐 μ΅œμ’… 완성이 λ©λ‹ˆλ‹€.

Everything in my daily life seems to be connected to art. My artwork always lingers in my head and I search for places that bring me inspiration every day. Once someone told me that they could feel that I grew up in a loving environment after seeing my artwork. I didn’t think about it until then but after hearing this comment a few times I realized that I am very loved and am cared for by people around me. There is an adage that says that love can only be shared by someone who was loved.
