1. What's your story? Where are you from?

Hello I am an illustrator Zungowl. I work in Seoul, Korea. I used to be a dream. A painter! And I paint steadily and now I am doing design work. 안녕하세요 일러스트레이터 정아울입니다. 저는 대한민국 서울에서 작업하고 있습니다. 어렸을 때부터 꿈이 화가였어요! 그리고 꾸준하게 그림 그리기를 하다 보니 지금은 디자인 일을 하고 있습니다.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I draw things that i like and interpret depression and despaire into cuteness. I especially love any living creatures swims in the water. So I'm really into Mermaid these days. 저는 우울함과 절망을 귀엽게 풀이하거나 좋아하는 것을 위주로 그립니다. 특히 물 속에서 유영하는 생물체를 사랑해요. 그래서 요새는 인어에 빠져있답니다.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

I mainly use the procreate app in ipad pro. It has a time-lapse feature that makes it easy to record. It also feels like carrying all the tools in one hand. 저는 주로 iPad Pro 안에 Procreate 어플을 사용해요. 타임랩스 기능이 있어서 녹화도 간편하고, 한 손에 모든 툴을 들고 다니는 거 같아 기분이 너무 좋아요.

4. What is your artistic process like?

I usually note on my iphone as soon as what i want to draw things and when i get home after finishing all the work, I check the note or a picture that I took on that day. The whimsical imagination is quickly forgotten by time. 일상 속에서 그리고 싶은 것이 떠오르면 바로 핸드폰에 메모합니다. 그리고 모든 일과를 마치고 집에 돌아오면 메모했던 것들을 체크하거나 그날 찍은 사진들을 보며 그림을 그립니다. 엉뚱한 상상은 금방 잊혀지기 마련이니까요.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

I look for a lot of things in my everyday life. I want to show you about myself graphically when I have something happy or traumatic. And I Feel thrill when looking for it 일상 속에서 많이 찾는 것 같아요. 행복한 일이 생겼거나 충격적인 경험을 할 때 그림으로 표현하고 싶어요. 그리고 강렬한 파란색과 연한 핑크의 조화를 찾을 때는 짜릿해요.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

Painting makes me feel alive. At that time, it's comforting and happy with everyday life! As you know, the world looks beautiful after meeting someone you love. So the picture showed me a lot of positive points. 그림 작업은 제가 살아있음을 느끼게 해줘요. 그동안에는 위로도 받고 소소한 일상에 행복을 주죠! 사랑하는 사람을 만난 후 세상이 아름다워 보이잖아요. 이처럼 그림은 저에게 긍정적인 관점을 많이 알려주었습니다.

7. Where did you study?

I studied Korean art design at Yewon Art College in Korea. After graduation, I learned skills at the design academy because I did not fit in the aptitude design. 저는 한국에 있는 예원예술대학교에서 한지공예디자인을 공부했습니다. 졸업 후에 조형 디자인이 적성에 맞지 않아서 디자인 학원에서 기술을 배웠습니다.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years? Working in an agency?

Five years later, I'm going to try and make a variety of things by turning them into images and animations. 5년 후에는 작업을 영상, 애니메이션으로 만들면서 다양한 시도들을 하고 있을 것 같습니다.

9. What about in ten?

Well..ten years later, I'm going to get a lot of my work, and want to make a product. Then I would like to make exhibitions! : ) 10년 후에는 제 작품 수가 엄청 늘어서 상품으로도 제작하고, 전시도 하고 싶네요! : )

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

I'd be glad to think that you would like to see this picture again. Even though you are not impressed with my painting. And I hope that the ideas that emerge from working together will become a definite worldview of my own. 제 그림을 보고 큰 감동을 받지는 못해도 이 작가 그림 또 보고 싶다. 라고 생각해 주신다면 너무 기쁠 거 같아요. 그리고 작업을 하면서 생긴 생각들이 모여 저의 확실한 세계관으로 자리 잡혔으면 좋겠어요.

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

I personally like all food 음식은 대체적으로 가리지 않고 잘 먹습니다.

12. Favourite book?

I usually read an emotional essay. I love the strength of a short sentence. Such as, dawara's salad anniversary, Tablo's blow notes. 주로 감성 에세이를 많이 읽습니다. 짧은 문장에서 오는 강렬함이 좋아요 예를 들어 다와라 마치의 샐러드 기념일, 타블로의 블로노트 같이요.

13. Favourite genre of music?

I like Korean indie music. People don't know well, but I like to share it when someone find that music. It feels so good. 한국 인디음악을 좋아합니다. 사람들은 잘 모르지만 느낌 있는 음악을 찾았을 때 공유하는 것을 좋아합니다.

14. What are your hobbies?

I've been listening to music all day. Also My brother majored in practical music. So we share the hobby. 음악 듣는걸 좋아합니다. 거의 하루종일 듣고 있어요! 동생이 실용음악을 전공해서 취미를 공유하기도 해요.

15. If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

I think I would be professional engineering. Because I have a patience. 좋아하는 것이 생기면 파고드는 성격상 전문성이 있는 기술직을 하고 있지 않을까 싶네요.
