Instagram: @ariellemartiins 1. What’s your story? Where are you from?Hi! My name is Arielle Martins and I’m an illustrator and I live in Brasilia, a city planned by modernist architects and urban planners in Brazil. I was always very inspired by the spaces I lived in, so I graduated in architecture and urbanism in 2017. During my graduation, I developed a passion for illustration and today, I dedicate myself exclusively to my work as an illustrator. 2. Tell us about your aesthetic.I am passionate about vivid and vibrant colors. I observe in nature and I think the colors represent a good part of my aesthetics. To that is added an observation of everyday life with a somewhat fanciful appearance. 3. What is your favourite medium and why?I work almost entirely in digital and Photoshop is my favorite work tool because it gives me a lot of freedom in stroke and texture. I also really enjoy experimenting with textures in digital and creating this illusion/impression of handwork. 4. What is your artistic process like?My process is usually quite chaotic, like a tangle of ideas that I have to unravel. For that, I write a lot and do a lot of drafts. I also like to create color shapes and experiment with compositions, as in a collage. 5. Who and/or what inspires your work?I find Art Naif very inspiring, like the work of Heitor dos Prazeres and Antonio Poteiro. Although I love digital, I'm also very inspired by essentially manual works like the artist Samico and Ana das Carrancas. But above all, I am influenced by texts, poetry, music, life and everyday conversations. 6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?Art makes me see inspiration in details that would go unnoticed and appreciate what happens in my life and day-to-day. It also makes me want to record the good things in my memory, whether it's with a photo or something written in the diary. 7. Where did you study?I studied architecture and urbanism at the University of Brasilia (UnB) between 2012 and 2017. 8. Where do you see yourself in five years?I hope to have my work spread around the world and inspire people to start new projects. I want to be connected to amazing people who can enrich my perspective. 9. What about in ten?Who knows? 10 years is a long time and I believe we will be living in a totally different world and that is very exciting. I know that I will be open-hearted to new opportunities... 10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?I hope to represent what I believe and stand for and that I can offer people moments of connection, whether with other people, with a moment, a memory, with nature or with everyday life. 11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?Feijoada!! (a typical Brazilian dish). Any kind of candy and pasta! I love food! 12. Favourite book? There are two: "Here" by Richard McGuire and "The Invisible Cities" by Italo Calvino. 13. Favourite genre of music?MPB and any other type of music that makes you want to get up and dance. 14. What are your hobbies?Currently, watch series, visit cafes and buy beautiful books. 15. If you weren’t an artist, what would you be?Probably an architect, since it's my academic background haha. Comments are closed.
