1. What's your story? Where are you from?

Hello. I am Kim Yejin. The artist name is Nichi. I was born in Seoul, South Korea and I am still living in Seoul, working hard at drawing. 1. 당신의 이야기를 들려주세요. 어디서 왔나요? 안녕하세요. 김예진입니다. 작가명은 니찌입니다. 저는 대한민국 서울에서 태어나 지금까지도 서울에 거주하면서, 열심히 그림을 그리고 있습니다.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I draw a small stories that happens in my daily life. A work is completed by adding moments of everyday life and small imaginations. I like colorful colors and am fond of cute illustrations. 2. 당신의 미학에 대해 들려주세요. 저는 일상 속에서 일어나는 소소한 이야기를 그려요. 일상 과 작은 상상이 더해져, 하나의 작품이 완성됩니다. 컬러풀한 색감을 좋아하고, 아기자기한 묘사를 좋아합니다.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

I mainly use Tablet and Photoshop. I prefer digital work in most cases, so I usually use Photoshop. It is a very handy program, you can easily get to know it! 3. 당신이 가장 좋아하는 직업 툴은 무엇인가요? 이유는요? 저는 주로 테블릿과 포토샵을 사용합니다. 대부분 디지털작업을 선호하다보니 포토샵을 이용합니다. 아주 편리한 프로그램이기 때문에 손쉽게 접할 수 있어요!

4. What is your artistic process like?

I set a topic from the beginning and then draw a picture. I give shape to it by drawing a picture of the image (the image when finished) that comes to my mind when I look around surroundings. 4.당신의 예술적 창작과정은 어떻게 되나요? 저는 처음부터 주제를 정한다음, 그림을 그립니다. 주변을 둘러보고 떠오르는 이미지들(완성했을 때 이미지)을 그림을 그려 구체화를 시킵니다.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

A great inspiration to me is would be going on a trip. All of seeing, eating new things through travelling becomes a fresh experience. I get inspired from the experience. I always take lots of pictures whenever I travel. Then, I come back home and remember the unforgettable moments through the pictures. 5. 어떤 것들이 당신의 직업에 영감을 주나요? 저에게 큰 영감은 여행입니다. 여행을 통해서, 보는것, 먹는것, 새로운것, 이 전부가 신선한 경험이 됩니다.이 경험을 바탕으로, 영감을 얻습니다. 항상 여행을 가면, 사진을 많이 찍습니다. 그리곤, 집에 돌아와서 사진을 통해, 그 순간을 기억합니다.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

I recently felt that art occupies a larger part of our lives more than we think. The emotions of art seem to make me have a different view of the world I see. I am a person who draws a picture but I get a lot of comfort from the picture. 6. 예술은 당신의 삶에서 어떤 역할을 하나요? 그리고 당신이 세상을 보는 관점에 어떤 변화를 주나요? 저는 예술은 삶에서 생각보다 큰 비중을 차지하고 있다고 요즘 많이 느낍니다. 예술이 주는 감정들이 제가 바라보는 세상도 다른 시각으로 보이는 것 같아요. 그림을 그리는 사람이지만, 그림을 보고 많은 위로를 받습니다.

7. Where did you study?

I was very fond of drawing a picture since I was a kid and I graduated from a normal high school. However, I went to the art college and graduated from the Department of Western Painting. 7. 어디서 공부했나요? 어렸을 때부터 그림그리기를 너무 좋아했고, 평범한 고등학교를 졸업했습니다. 하지만 대학교는, 미술대학을 진학을 했고, 서양화과를 전공으로 졸업했습니다.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years? Working in an agency?

After five years, I think that I am probably going to make a picture book while operating a private educational institute. It is also my dream to publish a picture book. 8. 5년 후에 당신은 어떤 모습일거라 생각하나요? 에이전시에서 일하고 있을까요? 5년 후에는 아마도 학원을 운영하면서 그림책을 만들고 있을 것 같아요. 그림책을 출판 하는 게 꿈이기도 합니다.

9. What about in ten?

Ten years later, I think that I will be on my way to take a trip, drawing a picture book. Of course, it is important to make money while working but the most important thing is life. I would like to take a lot of pictures while traveling. 9. 10년 후에는요? 10년 후에는 그림책을 그리며 여행을 다니고 있을 것 같아요!물론 일하면서 돈 버는 것 도 중요하지만, 무엇보다 중요한건 인생이니까요!. 여행을 다니면서 그림을 많이 그리고 싶어요.

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

I used to feel a sense of accomplishment when I look at the outcome of the painting. But most of all, it is my happiest time when I draw a picture! If I diligently draw a picture while enjoying it, I believe that people will recognize me someday. 10. 당신의 예술로 무엇을 성취하고 싶은가요? 저는 그림의 결과물을 바라보면 성취감을 느낍니다. 하지만 무엇보다 그림을 그릴 때가 행복해요! 열심히 내가 즐기면서 그림 그린다면, 분명 언젠가는 사람들이 알아줄 거라고 믿어요.

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

I like pasta very much. So I always have various ingredients to make them at home. I used to make pasta myself and eat it because I like to cook. As I cook this way, I have been able to cook many different kinds of pasta! 11. 자, 우리에게 당신의 인간적인 부분을 조금 들려주세요. 당신이 제일 좋아하는 음식은 무엇인가요? 저는 파스타를 아주 좋아합니다. 그래서 집에는 항상 파스타를 만드는 각종재료들이 구비되어 있어요. 요리하는 것을 좋아하기 때문에, 파스타를 직접 만들어서 먹곤 합니다. 이렇게 요리하다보니, 여러 종류의 파스타를 요리할 수 있어요! : )

12. Favourite book?

I like novels. One of them I read recently is [Witch of La place] by Higashino Keigo. I think that I probably like it because of the stories that change every time I read it. 12. 제일 좋아하는 책은요? 저는 소설책을 좋아합니다. 그 중 최근에 읽었던 히가시노게이고 의 [라플라스의마녀]입니다. 읽을 때마다 바뀌는 이야기들 때문에 좋아하는 것 같아요!

13. Favourite genre of music?

I love hip-hop music. Most of the time, I draw pictures while listening to exciting music. Still, on a rainy day, quiet songs are good! 13. 제일 좋아하는 음악장르는요? 저는 힙합음악을 사랑합니다. 신나는 음악을 들이면서, 그림을 그리곤 합니다. 그래도 역시 비 오는 날에는 조용한 노래죠!

14. What are your hobbies?

I like to paint with colored pencils! After watching a movie, I would paint the place that was pretty. 14. ​취미는 무엇이에요? 색연필로 그림 그리는 것을 좋아해요! 영화보고 그날 예뻤던 곳을 그리곤 해요.

15. If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

I think that I would be an artist even if I was born again. Even if I do something else, I think that I will be doing art activities in the end. It is not necessarily painting but art-related work. ^^ 15. 만약 당신이 아티스트가 아니었다면 어떤 일을 했을까요? 저는 다시 태어나도 아티스트가 되었을 것 같아요.다른 일을 하게 되더라도, 최종 목적지는 예술을 하고 있을 것 같아요. 꼭 페인팅이 아니더라도, 예술 관련된 일이요! ^^
