1. What’s your story? Where are you from?

Hello, I'm Jihyo Park. I was born in the countryside of Korea called Paju and now I live in a city called Namyangju. I majored in Industrial design and worked as a children's art instructor for a year. Currently, I am working as a freelancer. And I draw flowers, nature, and lovely animal illustrations.

안녕하세요. 저는 박지효입니다. 저는 파주에서 태어났고, 현재는 남양주에 살고 있습니다. 산업디자인학과를 졸업했고 1년 동안 아동미술 강사로 일을 했었습니다. 현재는 프리랜서로 일하고 있고, 꽃과 자연 그리고 사랑스러운 동물 일러스트를 그립니다.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I love to decorate and express aesthetically.And I mainly paint flowers and animals with a lovely feeling. When I see nature, I feel comfortable and happy. I think those feelings seem to be contained in my work. I don't put any restrictions on color but i mainly use warm colors and paint so that texture is felt.

저는 미적으로 아름답게 꾸미고 표현하는 것을 좋아하고 주로 꽃과 동물들을 사랑스러운 느낌으로 표현합니다. 자연을 보면 마음이 편안해지고 행복해지는데, 그런 감정들이 작품에 담기는 것 같습니다. 색상에 제한을 두지는 않지만 따뜻한 색감을 주로 사용하고 질감이 느껴지도록 그림을 그리고 있습니다.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

My favourite medium right now is the iPad pro. It comes with a variety of brushes so I can use drawing pencils, colored pencils and paints. And I can easily draw anytime, anywhere.

지금 가장 좋아하는 재료는 아이패드입니다. 아이패드의 브러시로 연필,색연필,물감,파스텔 등의 다양한 그림재료를 표현할 수 있습니다. 그리고 언제 어디서나 쉽게 그림을 그릴 수 있어서 좋아합니다.

4. What is your artistic process like?

I take pictures of plants and animals myself, and draw them in my own style while looking at these photos.

식물과 동물의 사진을 직접 찍고, 사진을 보면서 그림을 그리고 있습니다.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work? 

I am inspired by nature. The happiness of seeing cute animals and pretty flowers are expressed in pictures. I want to share it with many people.

저는 자연에서 영감을 받습니다. 귀여운 동물들과 예쁜 꽃을 보았을 때의 행복함을 그림으로 표현하고, 이것을 많은 사람들과 나누고 싶습니다.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

My drawing makes me feel alive. So I can love myself more. I have a lot of affection for everything around me. And I feel grateful for the little things.

그림은 제 자신을 살아있다고 느끼게 해줍니다. 나를 사랑하는 마음이 더 커졌고주변에 대한 애정이 많아졌고작은 것에도 감사함을 느끼게 되었습니다.

7. Where did you study?

I studied Product Design and Content Design at the Department of Industrial Design at Gyeonggi University.

저는 경기대학교 산업디자인학과에서 제품디자인과 콘텐츠 디자인을 공부했습니다.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

Five years later, I will be an illustrator/designer who channels good influence through painting.

5년 뒤에는, 저는 그림을 통해 선한 영향을 주는 일러스트/디자이너가 되어 있습니다.

9. What about in ten?

Ten years later, I want to be doing sustainable eco-friendly business through painting. I want to do something meaningful and valuable.

십년 뒤에, 저는 그림을 통해서 지속가능한 친환경 사업을 하고 있습니다. 의미와 가치있는 일을 하고 싶습니다.

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

I want to live a sustainable life by painting. Personally, it is just myself drawing my favorite pictures every day and making money with them. Socially, I want to do things that benefit people and the environment.

저는 그림을 그리면서 지속가능한 삶을 살고 싶습니다. 개인적으로는 매일 좋아하는 그림을 그리고 그 그림으로 돈을 버는 것이고사회적으로는 사람과 환경에 도움이 되는 일을 하고 싶습니다.

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

I love the sweet and spicy Korean food called 'Tteokbokki'.

저는 매콤달콤한 떡볶이를 좋아합니다.

12. Favourite book?

[How to Stop Worrying and Start Living - Dale Carnegie] -I usually have a lot of thoughts, so my worries tend to mess up my head. After reading this book, I learnt how to stop worrying about the past and tomorrow.

「자기관리론 - 데일카네기」 -저는 평소에 생각이 많은 성격이라서걱정이 머릿속을 뒤죽박죽으로 만들곤 합니다. 이 책을 읽고나서 지난 날과 내일의걱정을 멈추는 방법을 알게 되었습니다.

13. Favourite genre of music? 

I like every artist's song and independent music! I adore singers who artistically express their own colors in songs.

저는 인디음악과 아티스트의 노래를 좋아합니다. 예술적으로 자신만의 색깔을 노래로 표현하는 가수들을 동경합니다.

14. What are your hobbies? 

I love to take pictures. And sometimes, looking at them, I get lost in the memories.

저는 사진 찍는 것을 좋아합니다. 그리고 가끔은 사진들을 보면서그 순간들을 추억하곤 합니다.

15. If you weren’t an artist, what would you be?

I want to be a happy boss of a small store.

나는 작은 가게의 행복한 사장님이 되고 싶습니다.
