1. What's your story? Where are you from?

Hello! My name is Rocío and I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I studied graphic design and work as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. I started to work on my own recently so, hope it takes me to some new places.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

After a while, I realized there was a pattern in everything I did: almost all of my work involves some kind of movement, even though they're static pieces. I use a lot of deconstruction, painting and drawing beyond the edges and I am pretty big fan of using bright colors (RGB became my friend).

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

At the time digital because it provides me with a number of tools that allow me to play with graphic "errors" and get to surprising results/processes. Nevertheless, I think that going through some tests by hand gives an awareness that should not be lost. There I discovered many things that later became an inspiration for the digital work. On the other side, I have a fascination with Riso and screen printing.

4. What is your artistic process like?

Depending on the project: whether it's personal or for fun, I usually don't sketch, I just go for it. I'm pretty anxious I think. I try to use new color palettes as often as I can, and then I make an effort to stick to a more consistent one. Sometimes I end up having 4 types of blue in the same file and my inner graphic designer pops up and starts getting stuff in order. A great exercise that has always helped me, is drawing without looking at the paper when I'm visiting a city or on the train surrounded by people. It is a way of training the observation. Maybe, because of all that looking, at some point, you develop a better idea when drawing an ear or a building later.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

Dance classes, definitely. The movement of the body, the people in the subway, Matisse, Zebu, Sara Andreasson, traveling, the plants hanging around my apartment.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

Although I always liked expressing myself through the visual, my strong point has never been to "draw well" (as we are told as kids, that someone KNOWS how to draw). I like to tell stories, convey an emotion, even if it's something small. I like the possibility that art brings to expanding an idea and combining feeling with rationality in my case. A project that I've been working on lately is called The Frasco (@thefrasco on Instagram). In this project, I shared a fanzine with many people of different ages all around the world, and invited them to express something, pushing language frontiers, expanding the limitations of the categories that order our world and allowing us to play while creating something personal and unique. It was a great way to know what people thought and felt. For me, art is meant to be shared.

7. Where did you study?

University of Buenos Aires (UBA).

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

I've no idea! Hopefully traveling and working in animation (I'm trying to surf this area, love when the shapes move). Teaching again would be a nice plan too.

9. What about in ten?

Even less of an idea, but guess it all comes down to traveling too and working away from the computer and more on the street. I really don't like the "sitting on a chair all day" mode, so I hope in some years I get to that dynamic phase in some way.

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

I really value the opportunity art provides in getting your message out there. Generating content is important for me, so I want to dedicate more time to personal projects in between the commercial ones, so as not to lose this. If someone can use something I did, if it can inspire that person to think of new ideas, or if he just smiles for a while, I feel there's a goal achieved.
