Instagram: @sara.illustration 1. What's your story? Where are you from?Olá! I’m Sara and I was born and raised in Lisbon. After living in London for a year, I returned to Portugal in 2017 to live in a beach town. The ocean never ceases to amaze me and I feel this place highly impacts my work. 
2. Tell us about your aesthetic.I’m a fan of all things minimal —both in life and in illustration. I believe in simplifying. 3. What is your favourite medium and why?Adobe Illustrator is my go-to program. It’s super intuitive and makes all lines smooth and clean, which I love. 4. What is your artistic process like?It depends. Sometimes I sit with a pen & paper and see what comes out. Other times, an idea pops into my mind and demands me to take note of it. This also happens: I come across a gorgeous picture that would look great illustrated, and I just have to draw it —even if it’s purely to please the eye and I’m aware there’s no big idea behind it. 5. Who and/or what inspires your work?Books, nature, philosophy, my surroundings & other visual artists. Dali’s artwork fascinates me. Malika Favre’s perfectionism also inspires me every day. Orwell’s 1984 and Huxley’s Brave New World are always on the back of my mind. I love a good dystopia. Imagining other universes and how societies could work so differently is music to my ears. 6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?Art helps me put everything in perspective. No two people have the same perception (aka distortion) of a given object or subject. Art proves we all experience the world within ourselves. 
7. Where did you study?At School of Communication and Media Studies and then I took a course on advertising. 8. Where do you see yourself in five years?I hope I’ll be healthy, happy and surrounded by loving things. Career-wise: working as a full-time freelance illustrator, a traveller, and an occasional writer. 9. What about in ten?Healthier, happier and wiser. 10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?Giving people a different perspective of what could be. What if Chefchaouen was pink? What if there are space swimmers? 
11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?Eating new things is a hobby by itself. Fresh sushi tastes so good, pasta is amazing, chocolate is a must, coconut curry & ramen curry are such feel-good plates. I shall stop, I’m getting hungry. Guacamole. Peanut butter. And teas from all over the world! 12. Favourite book?I mentioned two on a previous question, and I can add to that list Machado de Assis’ Dom Casmurro, Choderlos de Laclos’ Dangerous Liaisons and tons of books from authors such as Agatha Christie, G.G. Márquez, Kafka, Nietzsche (…) I could be here all day and I still have so much left to read. The world is a library. 13. Favourite genre of music?If I could only listen to one artist/band for the rest of my life, it would be Manu Chao. I also enjoy trip-hop, jazz and electronic music a lot. 14. What are your hobbies?Yoga & meditation. Not exactly hobbies, but practices I try to incorporate in my daily life. Riding my bike and taking long walks in nature are always great ideas as well. 15. If you weren't an artist, what would you be?I actually also work as a copywriter. In another universe, I’m probably a yoga instructor.
