1. What's your story? Where are you from?

Hello, I'm Juyeon Park. I was born in Korea and live in Seoul. I am painting a rabbit as the main character. The rabbit is a doll that I liked when I was young. 안녕하세요, 제 이름은 박주연입니다. 저는 한국에서 태어났고 서울에서 살고 있습니다. 어렸을 때부터 좋아했던 토끼인형을 주인공으로 그림을 그리고 있습니다.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I like soft and warm paintings. So I use the color of warm colors and middle saturation. I want to give comfort by this harmony. 부드럽고 따뜻한 그림을 좋아합니다. 그래서 주로 따뜻한 색상과 중채도의 색상을 사용합니다. 이러한 조화속에서 편안함을 주고 싶습니다.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

I like the Painter program. I use it often because I can give a soft feeling through the brush of the painter. 저는 페인터프로그램을 좋아합니다. 페인터의 브러시를 통해 부드러운 느낌을 줄수있어서 자주 사용하고 있습니다.

4. What is your artistic process like?

I draw my thoughts that come to mind in everyday life on a small notebook. And draw a sketch specifically and then complete the picture through digital work. 일상생활 중에 떠오르는 생각을 작은 수첩에 낙서처럼 그려놉니다. 그리고 나중에 그려놓은 그림을 구체적으로 스케치한 후 디지털작업을 통해 완성합니다.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

I see a lot of pictures of other illustrators. I admire and envy their work. I will look back at myself and say, 'Let's try harder!' 다른 일러스트레이터 작가들의 그림을 많이 봅니다. 작가님들의 작품을 보며 감탄하기도 하며 부러워하기도 합니다. 그러면서 저를 돌아보게 되며 ‘좀 더 노력하자!’ 라고 다짐하게 됩니다.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

Painting time gives me happiness. It soothes my bored feelings and expresses my inner thoughts. 그림그리는 시간 자체가 행복합니다. 심심한 시간을 달래주기도 하며 저의 속마음을 대신 표현해주기도 합니다.

7. Where did you study?

I majored in convergence design at Korea Polytechnic University. I studied UX/UI design at university. 한국산업기술대학교 융합디자인을 전공했습니다. 학교에서는 UX/UI 디자인을 공부했습니다.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

I think I am going to work while dreaming of my goal that I want to do later. And I'll be painting at home steadily. 나중에 하고 싶은 저의 목표를 꿈꾸면서 직장을 다니고 있을 것 같습니다. 그리고 집에서 꾸준히 그림을 그리고 있을겁니다.

9. What about in ten?

Ten years later, I would like to run a Macaron Cafe, where my character is the main character. I want to sell rabbit-shaped macaron on one side and my character goods on the other side. 10년후에는 저의 캐릭터가 주인공인 마카롱카페를 운영하고 싶습니다. 한쪽에는 토끼모양의 마카롱을 팔고 한쪽에는 저의 캐릭터가 들어가 있는 상품을 판매하고 싶습니다.

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

I want others to feel comfortable and warm feelings in my paintings. And I hope people love my rabbit character together with me. 다른 사람들이 저의 그림을 보고 편안하고 따뜻한 감정을 느꼈으면 좋겠습니다. 그리고 저의 토끼캐릭터를 같이 사랑해주었으면 좋겠습니다.

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

I like the food with mushrooms. And I like macaron for dessert and my favorite drink is vanilla latte and milk tea. 저는 버섯이 들어간 음식을 좋아합니다. 디저트로는 마카롱을 좋아하고 음료는 바닐라라떼와 밀크티를 좋아합니다.

12. Favourite book?

I like mystery novels. Among others, I like the Sherlock Holmes series and 'And Then There Were None' by Agatha Christie. 추리 소설을 좋아합니다. 추리소설 중에서 셜록홈즈 시리즈와 아가사 크리스티의 ‘그리고 아무도 없었다’를 가장 좋아합니다.

13. Favourite genre of music?

I like a relaxing song like a Korean indie band, Standing Egg. 저는 한국 인디밴드인 스탠딩에그의 노래처럼 편안한 노래를 좋아합니다.

14. What are your hobbies?

I like collecting cute stuff or looking at US Criminal Investigation Drama. 아기자기한 소품을 수집하거나 미국의 범죄수사드리마 보는 것을 좋아합니다.

15. If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

I like making things by hand, so I will be making accessories or toy figures. 손으로 만드는걸 좋아해서 악세사리나 피규어를 만들고 있을 것입니다.
