1. What's your story? Where are you from?

Hi there, I’m Jihoo Park, I was born in Korea and live in Seoul now. After graduating university, I’m working as a freelance designer and an illustrator. 안녕하세요 박지후입니다. 전 한국에서 태어났고 서울에서 살고있습니다. 대학교 졸업후 프리랜서겸 작가활동을 하고 있습니다.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I focus on the emotion that people can get from my artworks. And I believe whether the emotion is good or bad, there is always beauty in it. 메시지를 통해 각자 느낄 수 있는 감정들에 중점을 두고. 슬픈감정과 기쁜감정 그 사이에서 아름다움이 존재한다고 생각하고 있습니다.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

I’m sure photoshop is my favorite tool, because photoshop always can provide me appropriate colour, texture and atmosphere which I want to express into my artworks. 저는 포토샵으로 작업할때에 가장 재미를 느끼고 있습니다. 원하는 색감이나 질감, 전체적인 밸런스를 맞춰 작품을 마무리 할때에 유용하게 사용 하고 있습니다.

4. What is your artistic process like?

First, I decide the message that I want to deliver to people, and then choose the object. And I don’t do idea sketch because I think idea sketch can be different with final image that I suppose in the middle of process. 전달하고자 하는 메시지를 먼저 떠올리고 표현하고싶은 오브제를 선정합니다. 그후에 저는 스케치와 완성작의 차이가 심하다고 생각돼서 스케치를 하지않고 바로바로 그려서 느낌을 보며 작업을 진행하고있습니다.

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

I’ve put some experiences into my artworks when I got from a music, movie and so on. And I think I’ve got some positive energy and inspiration from last travel. 평소 영화나 음악을 들으며 느낀 감정들을 메시지로 전달할 때도 있고 직접 경험했던 느낌들을 그림으로 담아낼때도 있습니다. 그리고 최근엔 여행도 다녀왔는데 작품을 그리는데 있어 많은 에너지를 얻고 온것 같습니다.

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

Art is my best friend who always cares about me with all of its heart, especially when I get depressed and nervous. It’s a kind of the tunnel which is connected between people and me. 예술은 제가 우울하거나 불안할때에 힘을 주며 항상 저를 괜찮다고 보듬어주는 친구이자 살아가는데 에 큰 힘이 되는 존재 인것 같아요. 그리고 많은 사람들과 저를 이롭게 이어주는 통로인것 같습니다.

7. Where did you study?

I’ve studied design in Hannam University in Deajeon. 저는 대전 한남대학교에서 디자인을 공부를 했습니다.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

I guess I’m going to try improving my artworks and want to maintain this life just like now. And absolutely, I’m going to have my own studio. 5년 후에도 지금과 다를것없이 전시도 하고 작품도 그리며 살아갈것같고 개인 스튜디오를 꾸준히 준비하고 있을것 같습니다.

9. What about in ten?

10 years later, I want to open an exhibition in another country and spread the beauty of Korean language. Surely, I’m going to try make an artwork with other language. 10년후엔 한국 뿐만아니라 외국에서도 전시를 하여 한글의 아름다움을 널리 알리고 영문작품도 많이 만들어 전시하고 싶습니다.

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

I want to share and empathize the emotion and experiences. If someone need to get words of encouragement or love, of course I want to give them what they need by my artworks. 많은 사람들과 공감하고 그감정들을 공유하고 싶습니다. 위로가 필요한 사람에겐 위로를 건내주고 사랑이 필요한 사람에겐 사랑을 충전시켜주고 싶습니다.

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

I love ‘Samgyeopsal(Korean Pork Belly)’ with Soju. 저는 삽겹살을 좋아해요^^ 삼겹살과 소주 는 최고죠

12. Favourite book?

‘Affinity’ written by Cheondeuk Pi. (It’s perfect weather to read) 피천득’인연’ (지금날씨에 떠오르는 책이네요.)

13. Favourite genre of music?

I love to listen New age music or jazz. It makes me calm and peaceful. 저는 재즈나 뉴에이지를 많이 듣는편이에요. 듣다보면 마음이 좀더고요해지는것 같아요.

14. What are your hobbies?

When I have extra time, I usually listen some music or watch a movie. Nowadays I’m into the action figures, so I’m looking for various information about it. 취미는 영화나 음악을 듣고 요즘은 피규어에 관심이 많아져서 피규어자료들을 많이 보는편입니다.

15. If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

If I weren’t an artist, I think I’d work in similar field like design. 만약 아티스트가 아니였다면 관련 분야에 종사했을것같아요. 디자이너를 했을것 같네요.
