1. What's your story? Where are you from?

Hi, I am Illustrator Jinyulee. Now I am working as a graphic designer and a freelance illustrator in Korea. 안녕하세요 일러스트레이터 이진유입니다.현재 그래픽디자이너로 일하고 있고 프리랜서 일러스트레이터로 한국에서 활동중입니다.

2. Tell us about your aesthetic.

I prefer viewing a comfortable picture. I like to work naturally without melting into daily life. I want to be a person who draws a picture and does not get tired easily, even for a long time. 보기에 편안한 그림을 선호합니다. 일상에서 튀지않고 자연스럽게 녹아들어가는 작업을 좋아해요. 쉽게 버려지지 않고 오래봐도 질리지 않는 그림을 그리는 사람이 되고 싶어요.

3. What is your favourite medium and why?

I mainly do digital work, but I like watercolor or acrylic. Even though digital work has evolved a lot, I think there is a nostalgia for drawing by hand. I also like the feeling of using water to express something. 주로 디지털 작업을 하지만 수채화나 아크릴을 좋아합니다.디지털 작업이 많이 발전했어도 손으로 직접 그리는 그림이 주는 향수가 있는거 같아요. 물을 이용해 무언가를 표현하는 느낌도 좋아하구요

4. What is your artistic process like?

During my college days I encountered many mediums. I studied both oriental paintings and oil paintings since I studied painting. Digital work mainly. I'll sketch it by hand, then move it to my computer. 대학시절에는 많은 재료를 접했습니다.동양화와 유화를 둘다 다뤘는데 일러스트를 본격적으로 공부하고 나서 부터 디지털작업을 주로 합니다. 손으로 스케치를 한 다음에 컴퓨터로 옮겨 작업하곤 합니다

5. Who and/or what inspires your work?

Great inspiration from my trips. Anyway, as I grew up in a small country like Korea, everything I saw in a wide area seems to be a fresh stimulus. It is like nature (flowers, grasses, animals) that I saw when I ate something or travelled at that time! 여행에서 큰 영감을 받습니다. 아무래도 한국이라는 작은 나라에서 자라다 보니 넓은 곳에서 본 모든것들이 신선한 자극이 되는거 같아요. 그때 먹었던 음식이나 여행을 하며 느낀 상황 봤던 자연 (꽃, 풀, 동물) 등이 그런거 같아요!

6. What role does art play in your life? How does it change the way you view the world?

I think it's a chain that keeps any objects, things, or specific memories together for a long time. At the same time, it allows me to communicate with a wide variety of people. If you look at those articles, you seem to have an unknown bond even though you do not know it at all. 어떠한 대상이나 사물 또는 특정한 기억을 오래동안 간직하게 해주는 매게체인거 같아요. 주로 일상을 그림으로 옮기다 보니 사진보다 더 특별하게 추억할수 있어요. 동시에 다양한 사람과 소통하게 해주고요, 제 그림을 보고 공감을 한다던지 본인도 이런 경험이 있었다 던지 그런 글을 보면 전혀 모르는 사람인데도 알수없는 유대감이 생기는 듯 합니다

7. Where did you study?

I was born on a small island in Korea and studied painting with nature. Then I went to college and majored in painting. Mainly oriental painting, and graduation exhibition oil painting. 한국에 있는 작은 섬에서 태어나 자연을 보며 그림을 공부했습니다. 그러고 대학에 진학해 회화를 전공했습니다. 주로 동양화를 다루고 졸업전시는 유화를 했구요.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

I want to do a lot of work by finding my own color. It's still unstable right now and I'm looking for what I like and what I do well. I believe that someday I will see my personality when I keep this process steady. I want to be successful as an illustrator and I want my painting to be in many places. I want to work on my favorite book covers, magazines, signboards, posters and so on. And I want to go on a trip  and draw a picture. 조금더 저만의 색을 찾아 많은 작업을 하고 싶어요. 지금은 아직 불안정해 저도 제가 좋아하는 것과 잘하는 것을 찾아 나가고있는데 이과정을 꾸준하게 하다보면 언젠간 저의 개성이 보이는 날이 올거라 믿어요. 일러스트레이터로 성공해 많은 곳에 저의 그림이 들어갔으면 해요. 좋아하는 책 표지, 잡지, 간판, 포스터 같은 작업을 진행해 보고 싶어요. 그리고 여행을 다니며 그림을 그리고 글을 쓰고 싶은데 그걸 묶어서 책으로도 내고 싶어요.

9. What about in ten?

I wish to have my own brand. From my paintings to interior goods. And I want to open classes by selling stuff in a small shop, teaching one how to draw and talk with various people. Right now I am learning by myself, but later on, I want to teach younger people how to make it easier. 저만의 브랜드를 가지고 있었으면 좋겠어요. 제그림으로 만든 굿즈부터 인테리어 용품들까지요. 그리고 작은 가게 안에서 물건을 팔면서 클래스들도 열고 싶어요. 다양한 사람들을 만나 얘기하며 그림 그리는 법을 가르쳐 주는거요.지금 현재 저는 혼자 부딪히며 배우는 중인데 나중에는 후배 작가들에게 좀더 쉬운 길을 갈수 있는법도 가르쳐 주고싶구요, 지금 제가 그게 간절해서 그런가봐요.

10. What do you hope to achieve with your art?

I would like to have my painting in many places of daily life. I wish it was so good that many people would find it. I also want to collaborate with my favorite brands. 일상속 많은 곳에 제 그림이 있었으면 좋겠어요. 그게 이뻐서 많은 사람들이 찾아주면 좋겠구요. 좋아하는 브랜드들과 콜라보도 하고싶네요!

11. Now, tell us a little more about you as a person: what is your favourite food?

I like Japanese food and Italian food. If time permits, I will learn to make various pastas. 일식과 이탈리아 음식을 좋아해요. 파스타는 따로 공부해보고 싶을 만큼 좋아합니다.

12. Favourite book?

I often read humanities books. When I look at the world, I seem to be putting a lot of knowledge into perspective. It is difficult, but I read the philosophy book once in a while. 인문학책을 주로 읽습니다. 세상을 바라볼때 다양한 시각으로 볼수 있게끔 많은 지식을 넣어주는거같아요.어렵지만 철학책도 더듬더듬 읽고있어요.

13. Favourite genre of music?

I like Carla Bruni's voice. 가수중에는 Carla Bruni 의 목소리를 좋아해요

14. What are your hobbies?

I visit cafes. 커피 마시러 카페가기!

15. If you weren't an artist, what would you be?

I think I will be the president of the bookshop in the neighborhood. Or studying books and publishing. 동네의 책방 사장님이 될거같아요. 아님 책를 공부해 출판업을 하거나요.
